A Perfect Storm in America

We have now entered into Phase II of the great Covid-19 social experiment on how social isolating, er… “distancing” combined with government mandated unemployment for 30 plus million workers can drive the more unstable members of society to unleash their brute animal instincts (also known as rioting).  Pavlov would have loved to witness this party. It only takes a few months of non-stop fear mongering and media induced hysteria to turn people into frustrated, pent up animals.

As we have now entered into the riot phase of the grand Faucian experiment you are no longer required to social distance so long as you are hurling rocks and insults at the police or setting cars and buildings on fire. Arson is such a great release from two months on non-stop daytime TV! But do wear your mask because masks will keep you safe ~ not from the virus stupid ~ safe from being recognized or photographed by CATV and police cameras. One other positive benefit of the mask is that it hides at least parts of some very ugly mugs from full public view. Those people carrying looted big screen TVs out of Target are not exactly super-model types.

Speaking of masks, it seems a group of MDs recently published their views in the New England Journal of Medicine (ever hear of that?) advising us that outside the hospital setting face masks have minimal to zero effectiveness in combating viral transmissions. Now why do you suppose that CNN, NBC, the New York Times, and Washington Post are not shouting that  tidbit of news from the housetops? Meanwhile millions of Americans, myself included, are being ostracized and treated like lepers for refusing to wear a mask that, a) collects and stores airborne bacteria, b) reduces oxygen flow to our lungs, and c) forces you to breathe in recently exhaled carbon dioxide ~ you know, the same stuff that is supposedly melting the polar ice caps. (That can’t be good!)

But being required to gag ourselves in order to attend a Mass or get a haircut is bad enough. The real point seems to be the social conditioning (brainwashing) of our children so that they get used to living in mortal fear of invisible or even made up dangers invented by faceless un-elected deep state bureaucrats who don’t read the New England Journal of Medicine. (Besides, how do we know that all those kids aren’t sticking their tongues out at us under those masks?) Ironically it has been empirically verified since this outbreak first began that children are virtually immune from any serious effects of the Covid-19 virus. They represent by far the lowest at-risk group in the population profile.

So why do companies such as Menards adopt a no-entry policy for anyone under 16 years of age? I’m not making this up ~ I was myself ejected from one of their stores for not having a face mask. But if you happen to be 15 even a mask will not buy you entry into their store. This is rank and arbitrary discrimination based on junk science which is being implemented as policy all across this great “land of the free.” I suspect the underlying problem has to do with children, not viruses. We seem to be morphing from a “child-friendly” to a “child-proof” society and this is not a healthy indicator.  Are they mere agents of infection, not even allowed to hug grandma, so that this is really a case of adults hoping to protect themselves from children, slyly hidden under the guise of protecting the children themselves? After all, we’ve jerked them out of their classrooms and denied them any meaningful graduation exercises to show our empathy.

And whose agenda is behind forcing students into online classrooms via Zoom and Skype? It looks suspiciously like another Big Tech tactic not only to increase its own market share in education but to accommodate an Orwellian style surveillance of all classroom instruction in the future. None of this actually benefits our kids or the independence of teachers. Instead it reduces them to pawns in one more social engineering scheme while teachers will become mere facilitators in the new centralized bureaucratic Ministry of Education.

Lastly we must give due credit for this perfect social storm which has taken down the economy, gutted both civil and religious liberties, and now given us violent anarchy in our cities to a media establishment whose myopic and selective presentation of events has fostered a persistent climate of fear, shame, and panic. So is the press explicitly lying to us as some have argued? Not directly perhaps, but by suppressing any stories or facts that may prove inconvenient to their preferred narrative mainstream journalists willingly collude in a serious distortion of reality. It is similar to a courtroom where the withholding of exculpatory evidence is no less serious a breach of truth and honor than giving false evidence. Likewise, the Fourth Estate is not so much engaged in overt conspiracy as in filtering events based on its own deeply entrenched institutional bias.

That bias is overwhelmingly “progressive” and it drives the media to portray America as a fundamentally flawed, intolerant society of moral and religious hypocrites which only “enlightened” forces (like liberal journalists) can possibly redeem. The virtuecrats are determined to convert all of us right-wing heathens to their cause with missionary zeal. This prevailing attitude also explains why editorializing now worms its way from the editorial page into virtually every news story. The purpose of news is no longer to inform but to evangelize ~ because the average American is considered too stupid to draw his own conclusions from the plain facts.

And so Americans now don their face masks and keep their distance, even while praying, because those virtuous officials and their media comrades solemnly assure us that people will soon be falling over dead in the streets if we don’t scrupulously heed their advice. Meanwhile America descends ever deeper into the Perfect Storm which the Left views opportunistically as its chance to seize power (after the miserable failure of their impeachment ploy). And so instead of condemning the riotous violence or working to reverse the tremendous economic damage inflicted upon Americans the “enlightened” Left quietly eggs the storm on. Who is kidding whom?

  1. To clarify one of the serious errors in this post, the following statement was posted on June 3 by the New England Journal of Medicine:

“We understand that some people are citing our Perspective article (published on April 1 at NEJM.org) as support for discrediting widespread masking. In truth, the intent of our article was to push for more masking, not less. It is apparent that many people with SARS-CoV-2 infection are asymptomatic or presymptomatic yet highly contagious and that these people account for a substantial fraction of all transmissions. Universal masking helps to prevent such people from spreading virus-laden secretions, whether they recognize that they are infected or not.

“We did state in the article that “wearing a mask outside health care facilities offers little, if any, protection from infection,” but as the rest of the paragraph makes clear, we intended this statement to apply to passing encounters in public spaces, not sustained interactions within closed environments. A growing body of research shows that the risk of SARS-CoV-2 transmission is strongly correlated with the duration and intensity of contact: the risk of transmission among household members can be as high as 40%, whereas the risk of transmission from less intense and less sustained encounters is below 5%. This finding is also borne out by recent research associating mask wearing with less transmission of SARS-CoV-2, particularly in closed settings. We therefore strongly support the calls of public health agencies for all people to wear masks when circumstances compel them to be within 6 ft of others for sustained periods.”
